The aim of the project is to produce a synthesis report on Norwegian welfare research (cf. The Programme on Welfare Research´s programme plan). The work will concentrate on economic transfers, social integration and personal care. Health services, education, housing and tax policies will be thrown light only when these policy areas are connected to the core areas. An important purpose is to uncover variables that can be manipulated by policy measures. This will be a guiding principle for selection of studies and arrangement of the findings. The book which will be the main reporting from the project will include a discussion of the relevance of the findings for future welfare policies. The study will contain four main elements:- Norway in a comparative perspective
- Changing structure of needs
- Trends in welfare policies
- Summing up of welfare challenges for Norwegian welfare policies
The main method of the study will be review of relevant literature. To some extent it may be relevant to obtain new statistical data etc. to update the findings. Research financed by The Programme on Welfare Research, where the project leader was research director 1999-2004, will be the basis of the studies that will be reviewed.
